Accreditation
The professionalism of the Trotwood Police Department has been recognized by the National Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Trotwood Police Department has been accredited by CALEA since 2003, and in 2017 was initially accredited by the Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Agency.
In November 2017, the Department successfully completed the Gold Standard Assessment, in which a CALEA Assessment Team reviewed for compliance its policies, organizational procedures, and community relations. On March 24, 2018, the Trotwood Police Department received the prestigious CALEA Accreditation with Excellence Award along with the Meritorious Award - designation for having been accredited for 15 consecutive years. These awards are symbolic for demonstrating a firm commitment to meet and exceed compliance with a comprehensive set of established law enforcement standards.
This is the Department’s sixth re-accreditation award and is in effect for a four-year term.
Who is CALEA?
The purpose of CALEA's Law Enforcement Accreditation Programs is to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by: maintaining a body of standards developed by public safety practitioners (covering a wide range of current public safety initiatives), establishing and administering an accreditation process, and recognizing public safety professionalism.

Trotwood Police Department Awarded Certification with State Law Enforcement Agency
Chief Erik L. Wilson is proud to announce that the Trotwood Police Department has adopted and implemented State standards established by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board as part of the State’s efforts to strengthen community and police relations. In February 2017, the Trotwood Police Department received an initial accreditation award from the Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Agency for being fully compliant with State standards established by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board.
The agency joins nearly 120 other agencies who have become certified by meeting standards for the use of force, including deadly force, and agency recruitment and hiring practices. The standards are the first of their kind in Ohio and were developed by the Collaborative in August 2015.
