Local credit union donates CO detectors for the 6th year in a row.

(Dayton, OH) The Firefighters & Company Federal Credit Union (previously named Dayton Firefighters Federal Credit Union) is donating carbon monoxide detectors for the sixth year in a row. The CO detectors will be donated to the local fire departments in the communities that the credit union serves in the counties of Montgomery, Miami and Greene. Departments, including Dayton, Trotwood, Harrison Township, Butler Township, Huber Heights, Kettering, Spring Valley Township, Bethel Township and a few more will be receiving the donations over the next several weeks. A total of 550 detectors will go out to the local departments. Over 2,600 detectors have been donated since the program was established in 2016. This program was set up as a way for the credit union to give back to the community utilizing some of the funds from the credit union’s holiday skip-a-payment program. However, this year with COVID-19, the credit union still offered their members the opportunity to skip their loan obligations for the holiday, but did not charge the members and the credit union paid for all 550 CO detectors themselves to continue the donations to the fire departments that started 6 years ago.

The donation over the years totals almost $35,000! The credit union hopes to continue this program and grow the number of detectors and the number of fire departments that receive the donation. “When we started this initiative, we had hopes that it would grow every year and we could serve the community in this way”, said Shannon O’Neill, Marketing Manager for the credit union, “Now we have fire departments reach out to us who look forward to the donation.”

Firefighters & Company Federal Credit Union serves anyone that lives, works, worships, or attends school in Montgomery, Greene and Miami County Ohio. The credit union serves firefighters and the people they protect. It is a 90-million-dollar credit union with about 6,600 members. Their main branch is located in downtown Dayton, with convenient access through their shared branching locations. The credit union provides a full range of financial products and services, but prides themselves on personal service and improving the financial lives of their members. They have been in business since 1935.
