At its regular meeting on October 6, 2025, the Trotwood City Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing the State of Ohio’s proposed plan to locate a forensic mental health facility on the site of the former Hara Arena. While the city council made clear its objection to the current location, it also expressed a commitment to working with the state to find an alternative location.
“We respect and understand the importance of expanding mental health services in Ohio,” said Trotwood Mayor Yvette F. Page. “However, placing a forensic facility at the former Hara Arena site does not align with our vision for economic revitalization, job creation, and quality of life improvements for Trotwood residents.”
This resolution underscores the city’s commitment to preserving the integrity of ongoing redevelopment efforts in the region, while fostering partnership and open dialogue with the State of Ohio to identify an alternative location in Trotwood that better serves the needs of both the community and the state. “We are not saying ‘no’ to the facility, said Mayor Page. “We are saying, let’s find a better place that works for everyone. We are ready and willing to be a part of that solution.”
The City of Trotwood will continue engaging with state agencies, regional stakeholders, and community partners to ensure that future developments reflect the priorities of its residents and contribute to the area’s long-term success.
