Paint, other than lead based, is not hazardous waste. If you have small amounts of paint, leave the container open to dry and discard in your trash. You can add kitty litter or sawdust to speed drying time.
Any empty containers that held paint, motor oil or blacktop sealer should be disposed of with your trash. Aerosol cans should be discharged completely and placed in either your recycling bin or trash bin. Check with your residential trash hauler about their disposal policies for specific items.
Unacceptable Materials
Asbestos
Explosives (old ammunition, flares, etc.)
Non-residential waste
Items over 25 lbs. or 15 gallons
Radioactive material
Pharmaceuticals / Medical Waste
Safe Hazardous Waste Transportation Guidelines
Keep material in the original container. If a substance is unknown, label the container unknown.
Do not mix different materials in the same container.
Make sure each container is properly sealed, labeled and secured for transport.
Keep flammables away from corrosives.
Place materials in the trunk of automobiles to avoid possible odors or spills in the passenger area. Do not transport the waste material in the trunk with groceries.
Once the waste material is loaded, come directly to the collection site.
