Trotwood Fire & Rescue to Conduct Hydrant Flow Testing

Charles WheelerCommunity News, Fire Hydrant Repairs/Replacement

In an effort to assure an adequate water supply for fighting fires and to help maintain the lowest Insurance Ratings possible, Trotwood Fire & Rescue personnel will be checking all fire hydrants for operation and flow. Trotwood Fire & Rescue will conduct fire hydrant flow testing from May 2nd through September 30th. If you see Fire & Rescue crews working alongside the roads throughout the city, please give them ample space to work and test.

It is recommended that you check your tap water for clarity before using it during these dates; if you see discoloration let your water run until clear again. This process of flow testing hydrants will cause rust in the water lines. Trotwood Fire & Rescue and the Montgomery County Water Dept. no longer offer rust-removing detergents; should you get rust in your clothing, please follow these steps:

  • Do not permit the clothing to dry.
  • purchase a detergent with rust-removing agents and follow the cleaning instructions.
