Dayton Metro Library to Temporarily Suspend Library Services

After much deliberation and consideration, the Dayton Metro Library has determined to suspend operations beginning at 6:00 p.m. today, Friday, March 13. Patrons who wish to pick up items on hold, or check out materials, should arrive at their Branch Library prior to 5:45 p.m. The Library’s Pandemic Response Team will regularly evaluate the situation, and concur with authoritative sources to determine the appropriate date to resume Library services. All Branches, Homebound and Outreach services will be impacted.

“We take seriously our role to help stall the spread of the Coronavirus for our patrons, staff and the community,” states Library Executive Director Tim Kambitsch. “This temporary suspension of services will help support our larger role of protecting the community’s safety during these unusual times.”

Digital Library Services 24/7

Dayton Metro Library is making more than 120 popular titles of digital audiobooks available for unlimited borrowing at Dayton Metro Library.org. Titles include fiction and nonfiction for adults, teens and children. Any number of individuals can borrow these titles at the same time.

“Given that so many people are currently unable to go to school, work, or visit their library in person, we want to make as much of our digital collection available as possible,” said Holly Varley, DML Collection Development Director.

In addition to these audio titles, Dayton Metro Library’s digital collection includes downloadable or streaming TV shows and movies through Hoopla, eBooks through OverDrive, and digital magazines through RBdigital – all accessible at DaytonMetroLibrary.org.

Individuals who do not already have a Dayton Metro Library card and PIN can get an eCard online for immediate access to the digital collection.
